Intermediate Petrophysics · Module I8
Intermediate Petrophysics Capstone
A multi-case interpretation note that applies the first seven intermediate modules to one dataset: depth QC and splice, lithology and Vsh, porosity calibration, saturation model comparison, pressure and contact checks, driver ranking and the low, mid and high input table, written for peer review.

What the module covers
- Choosing a suitable dataset
- Applying each intermediate module in sequence
- Structure and tone of an interpretation note
- Documenting alternatives and decision triggers
- What reviewers look for, and common mistakes
Learning outcomes
After the module you should be able to:
- Synthesize I1–I7 into a peer-review-ready interpretation capstone.
- Produce a complete interpretation note that a reviewer can follow end to end
- Name the alternatives considered and why they were rejected
- State which new data would change the conclusion
A short preview
The capstone is not a longer version of the earlier exercises. It asks for something different: a note that a reviewer who has never seen the well can follow from the depth shifts to the input table, with every choice traceable to evidence and every rejected alternative named. Most of the work is in writing down why, and in saying what new data would change the conclusion.
Who it is for
Petrophysicists and geoscientists with some interpretation experience, and engineers who review petrophysical inputs before they reach a volumetric or simulation model.
Prerequisites: The Basic Petrophysics track, or equivalent working experience.
Take the module in the Learning Hub
Intermediate Petrophysics: Eight applied modules with checkpoints; with the certified option, pass each quiz to unlock the next lesson. The lesson opens in the Learning Hub once the track is purchased; graded quizzes and the certificate come with the certified option.
