Basic Petrophysics · Module B7
Basic Petrophysics Capstone
A complete basic interpretation brought together on a short summary sheet: averaged properties over net pay, the dominant uncertainty driver, the assumption a reviewer should look at first, and a recommended next step.

What the module covers
- The petrophysical summary sheet and what belongs on it
- Identifying the dominant uncertainty driver
- Assumption alerts versus uncertainty drivers
- Why setting every input pessimistic does not give a low case
- A one-paragraph summary with a next step
Learning outcomes
After the module you should be able to:
- Assemble a basic interpretation into a two-page summary
- Identify the input that moves the answer most
- Recommend a next step that addresses that input
A short preview
Setting every input at its pessimistic value at once, lowest porosity, net-to-gross and rock volume with the highest water saturation, does not give a low case. It gives an extreme case, because when the inputs are independent the chance that every one sits at its own low end together is far smaller than one in ten. The capstone asks for a range built the honest way and for the single driver that moves it most, because that is what a reader needs to decide what to do next.
Who it is for
Geoscientists, reservoir and production engineers, and graduates who need to read a standard log suite and build a first-pass interpretation they can defend.
Prerequisites: None beyond basic geology and algebra.
